My Story

About Erik Blair
I’m a regular guy living a remarkable life.
As you will soon note, I’m not that great at writing bios. In general, I’m a jack-of-all-trades sort of guy. A writer, podcaster, traveler, self-employed web developer, beer aficionado, photographer, pastafarian, progressive, location-independent single dad with an amazing adult daughter.
But that doesn’t sum up who I am at all.
Later, I joined the US Army from 1984 to 1988. In 1988 I became a Deputy Sheriff, and in 1990, a Police Officer in California.
I did many odd jobs such as general manager, newspaper distribution, wrote a book, was a union representative, private investigations, did a lot of consulting, car wash manager, and supply store manager. Eventually, I started working as a self-employed web developer and started my own distributed self-employment business.
I am a heart attack survivor. I have been married and divorced three times. I am a very proud father of an incredible daughter who is about to graduate from college.
Now single for almost a decade, I long for the adventure of travel and exploring the connections we all share.
The years behind me outnumber those ahead, so I hope to seize the opportunity to enjoy as much of whatever is next in my life. That’s where the Escape Pod comes in.
My goal is to live in my campervan and see what’s out there. Initially, I am embarking on a mission to reconnect with people and places in the west, and then, who knows. I might travel abroad for a while. I’m open to what comes next.
Since July, I have been hunkering down in California, working on several projects, writing, etc.
I hope you’ll join me along this journey of adventure.
